Barbara Roman has been drawing since she was old enough to hold a pencil. She believes that we are all artists with our own vision and varying mediums - the way we create a home, tell a story, build our lives. Barbara was trained as an illustrator at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. Since 1983 she has been working with leading book publishers, advertising agencies and design firms. She moved to Hawaii in 1996 where she currently creates artwork for gallery exhibitions as well as for book publishing. Her work has received honors from the New York Art Directors Club, Society of Illustrators, and Print Magazine's Creativity Competition, to mention a few. ALA Booklist says, "There's a magical aura about Roman's colored pencil and watercolor illustratons." | |||||||||||||||||||||||

Barbara also enjoys making school and library appearances to talk with students about being an artist. From preschool to college she is quite a charismatic speaker. Marsha Devine, Head of Visual Communications at Steuben-Allegany BOCES, Hornel, NY refers to Barbara as, "A powerhouse of information and a charmingly entertaining speaker. My students loved her!
